I was really in shock when I looked up the nutritional information for my favorite smoothie, the jamba juice banana berry smoothie. The smoothie can contain up to 560 calories, and GET THIS, 115g of sugar. You think you are doing something good for your body, instead you are overloading it with tons of added sugar and other hidden culprits like frozen yogurt and sherbet! My hubby isn't a breakfast guy, but he will gladly consume a smoothie every morning. The secret is the frozen banana! Otherwise, I mix it up every day and simply follow the basic formula of one cup fresh fruit + 1/2 c. frozen fruit and 1/2 frozen banana + 1/2 c. liquid. Great smoothie for breakfast or a snack. Each serving of smoothie gives you about 4 servings of fruit. Great substitute for the smoothies you can get at fast food places that are filled with sugar and fat. I buy the fruit in the summer when it's less expensive, cube it, and freeze it to have during the winter months. I love this recipe. I added spinach because I'm not much of a salad eater and it's a sneaky little way to get an extra serving of my veggies for the day. Believe it or not... you can't taste the spinach or even tell it's in there. I make a large batch all at once and save some in the fridge.
