McDonough style Clam Chowder

The McDonough family always grew their own garden vegetables and we went clamming for our own fresh clams. Mom never followed any recipe, she used fresh vegetables and fresh caught clams to make the chowder. No milk, no bacon, and no starch. It was so good. Submitted by EKWANT

Avegolemono Soup with Chicken

I love this lemony-eggy soup, a staple at the Greek diner next to my apartment in Seattle. Could hardly find it anywhere, so I made it at home. This is a recipe from my Greek-American graduate student, Kristen. The nutrition info is based on 3 eggs, and a bit less chicken than one would get from the full roaster. We used leftovers from a store-roasted rotisserie chicken. This is really good! Takes a while to prepare the first time, but once you get the hang of it it would go quicker.

It's reasonably low fat, could be lower without any chicken and still be good, or with just white meat (grilling some chicken breasts would be good). Submitted by BIRKLAND

Terra's 'secret ingredient' Chili

Most people think I'm crazy when I tell them I put chocolate in my chili! People in mexico have been using chocolate for savory cooking for centuries. It does not add sweetness to the chili, but it does add a nice earthy tone to it as well as a slight rich texture.

VARIATION: for a vegetarian version, you can replace the meat with black beans. Submitted by LOTUSBLOSSOM126
