Based on Alton Brown's Lentil Soup. I swap out half of the lentils for split peas although lentils are lower in calories, we like it this way. Amounts of veggies included may vary depending on what I have on hand, but usually more onion and tomatoes. I also use canned, diced tomatoes rather than fresh. Both taste good. One is easy. A yummy soup to have before dinner, so you fill up on vegetables before over eating on meat and carbs.

Found this recipe in the bulk foods dept of my local grocery and thought to give it a try. Delicious as is, while lending itself to infinite variations based on preferences and availability of ingredients. This recipe can also be made in a slow cooker.Submitted by COUNTINGAPPLES
Green split pea soup, made with ham bone, but no meat added from the bone. Submitted by JK4LIFE1
This is a delicious, hearty, filling yet SUPER LIGHT soup. It's a great winter warm-up. Serve it with some crusty bread and get happy. It does take a while to cook, but the aroma and the huge batch of soup you get are well worth the wait!!

I concocted this backpacker chili recipe because I believe flavor always comes first, even if you're eating dehydrated foods in a lean-to! This chili mix is the perfect post-hike refuel -- full of complex carbs, protein, and salts to rejuvenate tired muscles. It's also easy to throw to together if you have a jet-boil or another similar camping stove, super lightweight, and crave-worthy even off the trail!Submitted by BTVMADS
