My adaptation of a traditional Moroccan recipe. The main substitutions are stevia powder for honey and freeze-dried apricot pieces for raisins. I find the Garlic/Ginger paste at Asian markets. If you don't have it, substitute 3 cloves minced garlic and 1 Tablespoon minced fresh ginger root.

This recipe's at its best when marinated overnight in the fridge, but if you're in a hurry you can cut it down to 20 minutes.

These are great to toss on the BBQ or grill for a party. We serve them with wholemeal pita breads cut into quarters, spread with a little garlic and low-fat margarine and barbequed lightly. Mmm... toasty!

I love one stuffed with 1/4 cup Friendship pineapple cottage cheese and fruit, good dessert or breakfast!

Khaman Dhokla is a steamed savoury cake made from gram flour. It is a traditional Gujarati snack, typically a tea time treat. Typically, chana dal (split Bengal gram) is soaked, ground with spices and fermented. The fermented batter is then steamed, cut into bite sized pieces and garnished with tempered mustard seeds and coriander.

Chana dal or gram flour is a food with a low glycaemic index and therefore extremely good for diabetics and those on a GI diet. Besides, it has all the goodness of lentils - protein and fibre.

I love, love, love this bread! Unfortunately, it's not the lowest in fat, since it's full of flax seed. But you do get the benefits of eating the flax seed, and it really is delicious!

Cooking time really depends on your bread machine, mine takes 3 hours.

I found a recipe in the book that came with my new bread machine. I substituted Splenda for the sugar and Egg Beaters for the eggs to come up with a lower fat/lower calorie recipe. I used the quick bread setting on my machine. It turned out great!

I remember watching the Frug make these on TV about 20 years ago and I have long since lost his exact recipe. This is my version of it and they are YUM-OH! The recipe makes 6-8 servings or more depending on how hungry you are. I haven't made it in forever, but I believe you will get at least 12 - 16 wrapped lamb packages out the recipe
