This is a dish that my mother in law used to make years ago when I was first married. I think it's an old English recipe and it was one of her family's traditional Thanksgiving recipes. It's very simple and very good! The first time I tried to make it, she told that it used carrots and turnips, so I made it with carrots and turnips. YUCK!!! It turned out that turnip is the old New England name for a RUTABAGA. Once I made it with rutabagas it was delicious -- I have never had a Thanksgiving without this recipe for the past 32 years. It's amazingly simple and if you've never had it you won't believe how amazingly delicious it is! It goes so well with turkey and stuffing!!

You can lighten this recipe up by using non-fat parm but I love it this way and it still is a reasonable calorie count. The quinoa makes this pilaf extra nutritional. One of my family's favorite sides. Could also be a good main meal by adding cubed chicken breast or just leave vegetarian (use vegetable stock instead of chicken). Sometimes I add a different variety of veggies like green beans.

I created this recipe to find a way to make those beautiful turnips at the market taste good... it was also a great 'comfort dish'. Not a light dish (think like scalloped potatoes), but in moderation, quite worth it!

Note: I ate the whole pan! This only makes enough for 1 - 2 people. You should double or triple for a family or friends.

From Family Circle's recipe with Maple glazed pork. This is a separation from the pork, and adjusted portion size. It is so good, I want to eat it as a side for anything. I can't have reduced sodium chicken broth, so I substituted with Chicken Bouillon that does not contain Gluten.
