Southern Cream Peas

A traditional pea grown in the south are cream peas, not creamed green peas, but real honest to goodness cream peas. This is my grandmother's recipe and she told me it was her grandmother's recipe.

If you can't find fresh cream peas, you can substitute purple hull, black eyed peas or any other southern vine pea. Cream peas tend to be the softest when cooked and are my favorite over the others I've mentioned. But purple hulls are a darn tootin good pea too.

The fresher your peas the less time it will take to cook. It typically takes me an hour to an hour and a half to cook them.Submitted by KAYAKBABE
