I didn't know what to make for dinner tonight, but had some chicken breasts defrosted. I raided my kitchen and came up with this, which was surprisingly good!

My version of the rice they make at my local Japanese Steakhouse. The Key is the grill!! They give instructions at our steakhouse and the chef said this was the key! Also cook rice ahead of time and cool.

Japanese Beef Hot Pot
(no ratings)

This is not my recipe. I took it from Men's Health.

Using store-bought broth is a healthy way to quickly transform protein and vegetables into an amazing Asian dinner. You can vary this recipe by swapping or adding vegetables or by changing out the beef for pork or shrimp. (Just remember to adjust the cooking times.)

Japanese Tofu Chicken burgers
(no ratings)

This tofu burger contains chicken and tofu. Serve it with grated daikon radishes and sweet sauce. It was found on About.com and submitted by Setsuko Yoshizuka, an about.com guide. I use ground chicken and it is so much easier to mold into burger shapes. I also made 6 burgers not 4 like in the original recipe.

"Here's the quintessence of Japanese home cooking: an aromatic, protein rich broth served over rice. Admittedly, Japanese cooking leans heavily on sugar - for a less traditional taste, you could reduce or even omit the sugar" As written by EatingWell.com

Okonomi stands for "what you wish" so use this recipe as base and throw in whatever you can get your hands on! Substitute vegetables/ meat or even flour if you can't find the Showa brand!

Makes 4 small pancakes or 3 large.

Sizzling shrimp and veggies top off tasty noodles. Looks like it came from an Asian restaurant but takes only 30 minutes in a common skillet. From eatbetteramerica.

Japanese eggs (for bento box)
(no ratings)

I just got myself a bento box because I always thought it looked like a healthy way to eat. This is a traditional egg dish which has many layers. Fairly easy to make, little sweet, little salty. Can be eaten cold.

Hiyashi chuka or “cold ramen” is a popular refreshing Shanghai-style dish served cold during the summer with a sweet and sour tare dressing, toppings and a little mustard. A particular type of golden yellow noodle is used in this recipe.
