Cookbook creator says: I love this soup had it since I was a child but it is one of the few where I used processed food like canned creamed corn. I will have to find a way of making creamed corn myself which I am sure would improve the soup. It is still very good. from mothers original recipe cut back on sugar and fat. showing original amounts in brackets. tried it with the reduced butter and the topping was too dry and crumbly so increased it back to the original amount. It only added less than 20 calories per square. It is all about serving size. the squares you get in most cafes now is 4 times what they were when I was a kid. 225 calories is reasonable for a treat, 900 not so much.
