VERY healthy, low sodium and yes the oil is needed - especially if you're putting the muffins in paper cups so they don't stick to the paper. Very wholesome tasting and a bit sweet. The honey would probably make it even sweeter.

These are my favorite bran muffins. I usually heat them in the microwave for a few seconds before eating to bring out the flavor. Their delicious sweetness makes them enjoyable without having to add butter.

I adapted this from the 'Glorious Morning Muffins' recipe I found on the back of a Pillsbury flour bag. My version uses whole wheat flour and applesauce instead of apples. I've also changed the kind of dried fruit and nuts called for.
