Brown Jasmati/White Basmati Rice Pilaf

This blend of brown and white rice is a nice compromise for my kids, who prefer boxed rice pilaf, which is full of crazy ingredients. I haven't yet found a flavorful brown rice and a white rice with the same cooking time, so this is done in two steps. Real chicken broth is the best choice, but I was out today so calculated the recipe using bouillon and broth. Fresh garlic, onion and parsley are, IMO, better than dried but dried gives my kids the "boxed" texture and flavor that they like and is quick and easy. You can also use broken pieces of vermicelli or even spaghetti in place of the orzo.Submitted by: JWALSH2000
