This is the only way I know to make taco salad and my husband prefers this version over the one we know with the dressing already added. The chili beans I use have Mexican spices in the juice so I don't need to add spice. We like to crush tortilla chips over the top or add crunchy tortilla strips for the crunch factor but it's not included in the nutrition. We also add a little shredded cheese and top with dressing of choice but those are not included either.
This is a different version of my mom's recipe. The bread topping is completely optional, but is considered in the nutritional value.
