This is a recipe that was in a cookbook that we brought back from Egypt in 1973 when we went to Egypt on my father's sebatical. He was a professor of Arabic for 20 years at the University of Kentucky. I can't explain it, he was born in Mass. and went to school at Harvard. Go figure.
