Filled with hidden vegetables, this easy spaghetti can be quick-cooked on the stove, or simmered all day in the crock-pot.
This is a meatless variation of Carbonara, with tomatoes and skim milk instead of cream. I also added green beans for variety. This is a "quick" version, using canned tomatoes, beans and parmesan, but you can make this with all fresh ingredients and the flavors will be more intense.
Wonderful combination of textures - crunch celery & water chestnuts offsetting the beef and pasta, filled out with the other veggies.
MODIFIED 5/3/10 - reduced the fat and changed the sausage to chicken instead of turkey, also used onion powder instead of onions.
Good old-fashioned fried potatoes with sausage & onions. You can make this with less butter and/or oil to lower the calories even further. The smoked turkey sausage is a little high in sodium, but I haven't been able to find any lower in my area.
Thick ham steak and fresh pineapple were my inspiration for this dish. It was an experiment that turned out delicous! I may use less light soy sauce next time in order to reduce the sodium a bit more, since ham has such a high sodium content to begin with.
I used LAUR986's Honey Balsamic Chicken recipe & modified it to make a stir fry with noodles. So simple, and my family loved it!
I love German cabbage and noodles with sausage, but it can become very high fat if made the old fashioned way. I have substitued Turkey Kielbasa for the sausage, and whole wheat linguine.
Very similar to that famous seafood restaurant's biscuits. To make them even more similar, brush tops with melted butter & garlic before baking (not included in nutritional info). This is very similar to other recipes on this site, but I made some very small adjustments to the ingredient amounts and also made it a smaller batch.
This is just the marinade portion of SARAK31's "Honey Grilled Chicken Breasts", which I entered with reduced sodium soy sauce and without the salt & pepper.
Keep the sodium lower in this by leaving out the Morton Lite Salt or leaving out the ham.
This is a modification of someone else's version - I have changed the seasonings and used less parmesan and butter/margarine.
NOTE: this is a version of the Un-Chained Recipe Contest winner - Boneless Sweet BBQ Wings, by OIL_FIELD_WIFE. I have made slight modifications. I love Hooter's Boneless Wings or Strips with Daytona Sauce - a mixture of hot sauce and BBQ sauce.
This is a low-fat, low-sugar version of my family's favorite banana bread. I have substituted canned pumpkin for the traditional shortening and Sugar Twin brand sweetener for the white sugar. I've also used whole wheat flour to replace about 60% of the white flour, and Morton Lite Salt to lower the sodium..
Country comfort food - this recipe can be modified to suit your personal tastes. I use Morton Lite Salt to keep the sodium low.
I was trying to sneak veggies into the favorite instant mashed potatoes, instead I created a great veggie dish! (Leave out the margarine to reduce the fat and sodium...)
This crock pot (slow cooker) chicken stew is wonderful served with whole wheat biscuits. It would also be great with onions in it, but my BF is allergic and can only tolerate a small amount of onion powder. I use whold baby carrots because they are easy, but you can substitute large carrots, peeled & sliced.
Mixing non-fat milk with prepackaged creamy dressing provides a tasty lower-calorie dressing.
This salad dressing is sweet and spicy - the ginger, garlic and red pepper flakes make it hotter the longer it sits in the fridge.
This was my grandmother's recipe. It is very light and fluffy, which makes it easy to eat too much of! She always served it in a bowl with cream or milk poured over the top.
By using butter instead of shortening, and whole wheat flour, these traditional snickerdoodles become thin and crispy, with lots of texture.
This was so easy, and my kitchen smelled like heaven when I got home from work!
Same as my other parmesan skillet, but with precooked brown rice, frozen broccoli and ground turkey.
Super rich with a creamy texture, this is NOT a low cal food! I was served this cheesecake-like pie recently and decided to get the recipe in case I ever want to splurge on my calories! Original recipe says that this is 10-12 servings, but 1/16 slices are plenty because of its incredible richness.
Very quick, very simple, and very delicious! I chose the HyTop brand of Teriyaki sauce because it had the lowest amount of sodium of the choices available at the grocer.
Using precooked and canned ingredients makes this super fast to fix. Rinsing the veggies and the canned chicken will help reduce the sodium content also.
Kind of like gumbo, kind of like stew - I always just start adding whatever sounds good.
Yet another "throw it all together" recipe, made with things I happened to have on hand. Turned out pretty good, a sweet tomato pasta dish. You could add any type of veggie to this, I ate it with some canned no-salt green beans mixed in.
To reduce sodium I used only 1/2 the seasoning packet for the Rice-a-roni, and rinsed the canned chicken thoroughly. I also only used 2 tbsp butter instead of 3 when preparing the Rice-a-roni. **NOTE** nutritional values for the Rice-a-roni include the 2 tbsp butter...
This is a great crock-pot meal! I put the pork, Teriyaki sauce and honey in the crock pot during my lunch break, add the broccoli when I get home and serve over Soba noodles.
This definitely satisfies any mac-n-cheese cravings I've had, and it has lots of broccoli in it too!
Quick and easy, this pasta salad only has 4 ingredients. Pasta, canned tomatoes, canned green beans, and light mayo. It is also excellent with canned tuna or chicken added!
Quick and easy, this pasta salad only has 4 ingredients. Pasta, canned tomatoes, canned green beans, and light mayo. It is also excellent with canned tuna or chicken added!
I adapted the recipe for "Watkins Brownies" by replacing the butter with applesauce and bananas, then also added Chocolate PB2 (powdered peanut butter) and a few chocolate chips. Because they are so low fat, they will stick to the pan (or the muffin liners) so make sure you use non-stick cooking spray OR a silicon baking pan.
A quick and easy meal when you're in a hurry, using pre-packaged ingredients.
Serve this over brown rice - it has a very mild sweet & sour sauce.
This heavy chocolate cake is pure comfort food, and especially easy to make. No dairy, no eggs, it's great when the pantry is running low...
Adapted from a recipe in Cooking Light magazine - only a couple of small changes. I used sirloin steak instead of chuck, and a smaller amount. Also I used chicken broth instead of beef, and added Worcestershire Sauce. I had no tomato paste so I substituted canned stewed tomatoes and left out a cup of the water.
Cheesy pasta with strips of lean ham - this healthier version of a favorite comfort food is fantastic, and very simple to make!
Great basic recipe, I like to add onion & garlic powder to mine before adding the water.
**Edited - 2/19/09 - I changed this from Hamburger Parmesan to Parmesan Skillet, replaced the ground beef with ground turkey**
A quick and easy meal that everyone loves! You can substitute any kind of frozen veggies that you like, or use fresh and add a little more water.
Adding a small amount of flavored instant potatoes makes this extra creamy!
Leftover "oven baked brown rice" mixed with smoked turkey sausage and frozen broccoli, with a little parmesan. Yummy!
I use all frozen or pre-packaged veggies with this, along with canned chicken.
A long, long time ago, Taco Bell used to make a "Santa Fe Chalupa". I loved the flavor of the smoky/sweet/spicy sauce, so I created my own low-fat version. It is especially good on egg burritos! And the best part is that you get the Taco Bell Fire Sauce packets for free if you go there...
This is a modification of the recipe "Honey Baked Lentils" by user CHESSAKAT. I added lean ground beef and put it all in my crock pot.
Leftover turkey breast, whole wheat penne pasta, fresh veggies, lemon & parmesan make this a tasty one dish meal.
I used leftover oven baked brown rice, canned kidney beans, green beans and turkey smoked sausage. All the ingredients were already prepared, so all it required was opening cans, slicing sausage and heating a skillet! And it's super filling!
This is a quick and easy recipe, made with cake mix and lemon lime soda. You can use diet soda and brown sugar style Splenda to lower the calories even further, but I didn't have them on hand.
This is a great way to prepare ground beef... I had leftover take-out sweet-n-sour sauce so I created this meal. It is delicious served over LILDINI's "Foolproof Oven Baked Brown Rice".
Frozen chicken tenders and a few canned items and you have an easy mexican stew. I served this over AMANDAPACE's "Foolproof Oven Baked Brown Rice".
The quinoa adds a nutty flavor to this simple soup made from packaged, fresh and frozen ingredients.
***UPDATE*
** When I was packaging up my leftovers, I realized that this only makes 11 servings, not 13. I have changed the info so it is more accurate now.
I created this out of a need to use leftover pasta... The rest of the ingredients are canned or frozen.
Made with fresh potatoes, frozen chicken and canned spinach. I threw this together trying to find a way to use up a can of spinach - it turned out fantastic! Added the Rice-a-Roni as an afterthought.
I use frozen chicken tenders for this easy slow cooker recipe.
I just threw this together with ingredients I already had in the house, and it turned out great!
This version of my cauliflower & cucumber salad also contains cabbage, bell pepper and radishes.
Fresh veggies are wonderful and crunchy in this salad. You can substitute or add any fresh vegetables to this savory salad.
Quick and easy, this pasta salad is made from canned and packaged foods. If you don't want it with Kielbasa, you can substitute a 12.5 oz can of Kirlkand chicken breast instead.
