from mothers original recipe cut back on sugar and fat. showing original amounts in brackets. tried it with the reduced butter and the topping was too dry and crumbly so increased it back to the original amount. It only added less than 20 calories per square. It is all about serving size. the squares you get in most cafes now is 4 times what they were when I was a kid. 225 calories is reasonable for a treat, 900 not so much. Serving size serving size serving size.
recipe nutrition is without optional nuts.
kinda like a strata crossed with a quiche or a savoury bread pudding
reduced the butter substituted low fat evapourated milk for cream.
