The way my mom always made them! Also, she adds a pound of ground pork too (double all the rest of the ingredients), but I kept it out to lower the fat. We like BIG flavor, but you can omit either the minced garlic or garlic powder if it's not for you. And don't omit the water, it really makes the meat more tender!
Got this off the Food Network... It's posted on here now so I could calculate the calories/fat and add it to my personal food tracker.
I found a "copy cat" recipe for this on the internet and have made the "full fat" recipe many times... it's delish!! I decided to try and "lighten it up" and basically just substituted where I could, but I'm sure there is still room for improvement... Nothing beats the original recipe, but this came pretty close... without losing all the flavor. Enjoy!
