I often will use this recipe on the weekends, to get an extra boost of good carbs and fruit, as a meal. I really don't like sugar substitute aftertastes, which is why I use real sugar. If the apples start turning brown before going in the oven, put the peeled apples in a large bowl of water with about 2 tsp lemon juice while peeling the rest. I use a smaller baking dish, roughly about 6x9, which fits this recipe nicely.
This traditional Acadian chicken stew is a family favourite. I didn't include the doughboys that are often in the stew, mainly because I don't actually like them. If you add them, be sure to adjust your calories accordingly. The nutritionals only include one onion, since the other one is for the stock. The Summer Savory is what makes this stew more "Acadian". This is a great way to use up turkey leftovers, too.
I found this recipe in an old cookbook, and decided to substitute the coconut and walnuts for flaxmeal. If you have a good way to reduce the fat and sugar content without sacrificing flavour, please let me know!
Simple ingredients for a simple and tasty meal. This is the base for my homemade spaghetti sauce.
This is a family tradition. My grandmother found this recipe back in the 50's, and passed it along to my mother. It's my father's favourite Christmas dessert.
If you try the recipe and try it with lower calorie foods, and it turns out the same, please let me know. I haven't had much success lowering the calorie count.

Although my mother used to make spaghetti sauce with hamburger, we've both tried it with other meats, and I really enjoy blade simmering steak instead of hamburger in the sauce.
The nice thing about spaghetti sauce is that I can toss in any leftover vegetables I might have in the fridge, which always gives the sauce a new flavour.
Ground chicken makes this dish lower in calories, compared to lean hamburger. Although I like the broccoli & cauliflower & onions mixture, you can substitute the veggies for ones you prefer (but it may impact the calories per serving).
Simple hamburger casserole, nice and crunchy texture, with just a bit of kick.
