I didn't have an onion so I left it out, and I also substituted chicken broth for water and reduced the salt.
This recipe appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle several years ago. I have made these several times with almonds and they are wonderful.
This recipe came from my junior high foods class (circa 1966-67).
It's a great dessert for fall, when the fresh crop of apples arrives.
