Low-fat, high in protien, vitamins, fiber, AND it has caffiene, this smoothie gets you going! It is also a great hangover cure...
I wanted something that had fiber and protein. The Fiber One muffin mix had the fiber, but not much protein to speak of. So I added soy protein isolate because it doesn't have much flavor to interfere with the taste of the muffin. I added moisture to counter the additional dry ingredient by adding the apple and spices, and more baking powder to counter the increased density from the added ingredients.
I got the basis of this recipe from Epicurious and made a few alterations to make it what it is. There are healthier versions, but oh well, this is yummy and not too bad nutritionally :)
I think my recipe still needs some work, so this is not a final draft. My next try will use whole wheat PASTRY flour, and maybe a bit more of it too.
YUM! I also sometimes add instant coffee.
I can't stand canned soups, and my hubby doesn't seem to get this so he keeps buying me more. I have to doctor it a bit.
I was getting over the flu so my husband threw this together (we had a whole turkey breast he had just made, so he used the bones and meat) rather than the usual chicken noodle soup. The broth nutrition info is from another Spark member. This is a great way to use up Thanksgiving leftovers!
I like to portion out the fruit in the evenings, this makes it even quicker in the mornings. It's a great "on the go" nutritious breakfast packed with vitamins and protein. I also like it when I'm sick because of all the vitamins.
Using low-fat mayo and sour cream will reduce the calories.
This is an easy, healthy and filling soup. Even my husband likes it, and he is super skeptical that anything healthy could taste good. Could be served with some bread, or Hubby likes to grate a little parmesean onto it.
