Cranberry-Almond Oatmeal Cookies

This recipe alters a previous SP recipe based on comments readers provided. Applesauce adds much-needed moisture, and almond extract brings out the almond flavor. Note that these cookies look nothing like the large, buttery cranberry-almond cookies sold by places like Subway. These cookies are small, dense, and somewhat chewy (if not overbaked).
