I used whole wheat flour, butter instead of margarine (no trans fats), decreased sugars to 2/3 cup each, and switched salt to 1/2 tsp and cinnamon to 1 tsp. Very soft, chewy cookie with delicious flavor but a bit dry. (?due to the changes). Good recipe just the same. Submitted by:

excellent-added raisins and pecans to half for husband and kids-they loved them. also used half whole wheat flour and cut both sugars to 3/4 cup each Submitted by:
