IntroductionWhat a summertime treat! What a summertime treat!
4 cups fresh blackberries
1/3 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup shortening
4-5 T. ice cold water
Mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening until entire mixture resembles pea-size crumbs. Add cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until dough holds together. Divide into two lumps. Roll out each lump into a 12" circle. Place one inside your pie tin. Fill with berries. Place second circle of crust on top. Cut vent holes, crimp edges.
Bake in 425Â° oven for 35 to 45 minutes. After first 15 minutes, cover edges of pie with foil to prevent over browning. Let cool for one hour. Makes 8 delicious, mouth watering slices.
