Introduction

This is a type of fried bread made in the Caribbean and is very popular. This type is made with baking powder but there is another that is made with yeast but it is called different but is basically the same fried bread with different taste and texture. It can be eaten with anything meat or fish (can or fried or dips) if you want. This is a type of fried bread made in the Caribbean and is very popular. Ingredients

    Ingredients:
    *Flour, white, 2 cup
    Butter, unsalted, 2 tbsp
    Granulated Sugar, 1 tsp
    *Shortening, Crisco, 1 tbsp
    Water, tap, 1 cup (8 fl oz)
    Baking Powder, 2 tsp
    Salt, 1 tsp
    *Canola Oil, 2 cup for frying

Directions

makes 10-12 pieces

Add: flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in a medium bowl and mix well. Add shortening and butter in flour mixture and use the back of a fork to mix. Mixture should crumble together with the flour mixture. Add water and make that the dough is very soft in the beginning. Add more flour a little at a time if needed. Knead dough on a floured surface and let stand covered for at least 10 minutes. Put oil into a frying pan on medium high to get hot. When ready, cut dough into pieces and knead by hand into flat round circles. when all is done place dough pieces into hot oil and make sure the each side of bake is lightly brown. Place on paper towel to drain off excess oil.
Serve hot or cold with your choice of meat, fish or vegetarian salad.
