Introduction

Tasty raw substitute for favorite foods like BBQ or hot dogs. Tasty raw substitute for favorite foods like BBQ or hot dogs.

Ingredients

    1 C tomatoes, fresh, chopped
    .20 C chopped onion
    .5 C dried tomatoes, soaked 15-30 min.
    .5 red bell pepper, chopped
    1 t minced garlic
    juice of 1 lemon or lime
    4-6 T agave nectar (or honey)
    .5 t sea salt
    1 t chili powder
    .5 t cinnamon
    .25 t garam masala
    .25 t dry mustard
    1/8 beet (optional)
    1 t nama shoyu (soy sauce)
    1.75 C raw cashews
    1.5 C raw walnuts

Directions

Blend all but the nuts in a high-speed blender. Chop the nuts in a food processor with the S-blade, pulsing the motor (they should be chunky, not powdery). Mix all engredients together and adjust seasonings to taste (but remember that salt, sweetness, and hotness may increase with dehydrating). Spread on teflex sheet on dejhydrator tray. Dehydrate until crunchy, slicing into 16 squares and turning over onto screen when firm. Eat for snacks or as a meal entree. Other nuts can be used. Macadamia nuts are good. The beet adds a rich, red color. Thanks to Rawkinlocs for the picture. Makes 16 servings.

    Thank you for noticing that omission! I have now fixed the recipe. Some people have told me that they add raisins to the mixture. I will try that next time I make it.
