This is a recipe that a friend created and I've tweaked on it over the last 8 years! The sodium may be reduced by either reducing or omitting the salt or by using reduced-sodium tomato products. Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    1 pound lean (8% fat) ground beef
    1 cup chopped onion
    3 garlic cloves, crushed
    1 tablespoon dried basil
    1.5 teaspoons ground oregano
    2 whole bay leaves
    1.5 teaspoons salt
    Dash freshly ground black pepper (3 turns on my pepper grinder)
    Small pinch crushed red pepper flakes
    1 - 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
    2 - 14 ounce cans petite diced tomatoes
    3 - 6 ounce cans tomato paste
    4 cups water

Directions

Brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. While this is cooking, mix the other ingredients together. Put all ingredients into a crockpot sprayed with Pam. Cover with lid and heat on low for 3-4 hours, depending on how hot your crockpot gets. Yields 16 one-cup servings.
