Introduction

This traditional Egyptian breakfast food is very filling and has a lot of vegetarian protein. It can be eaten for either breakfast or lunch, and garnished with veggies and served with flat bread it's delicious. This traditional Egyptian breakfast food is very filling and has a lot of vegetarian protein. It can be eaten for either breakfast or lunch, and garnished with veggies and served with flat bread it's delicious.
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    1 can fava beans, drained
    1 can garbanzo beans, drained
    1/3 cup water
    2 large cloves of garlic, minced
    2 lemons, juiced

    Place beans and water into a sauce pan. Simmer for ten minutes.

    Remove from heat, let rest for ten minutes.

    Add the garlic (minced with salt) and lemon juice and stir. Mash slightly with a mortar or the bottom of a drinking glass.

    Garnish with any combination of the following: paprika, cayenne, parsley, coriander leaf, radish, tomato, pickle, cucumber, hard boiled egg, olive oil, or tahini sauce.

    Serve with hummus and bread.
