Chinese Sesame Bread

Introduction

In northern China, there is an area where grains, such as wheat and millet, mainly grow. This bread, made with flour, is one of the most popular of Chinese snacks. It is a casual snack usually sold on streets in Beijing. It is also served with seasoned ground meat as a specialty of a particular restaurant specializing in the court dishes served during the time of the Qing Dynasty. Ingredients

    Flour, white, 1.11 cup
    Baking Powder, 1 tsp
    Granulated Sugar, 2 tsp
    Salt, 1 tsp
    Water, tap, 125 mL
    Canola Oil, 3 tbsp
    Sesame Seeds, 1 cup

Directions

1. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and granulated sugar in a bowl. Add the tepid water and mix all the ingredients together. Let the mixture stand for approx. 10 minutes.

2.  Divide the dough prepared in (1) into an equal number of 30g and 10g portions. On a flour covered surface, roll out each 30g portion into the size of your palm.

3. Coat the surface of each 10g portion with vegetable oil and wrap each with a 30g portion prepared in (2).

4. Roll out each portion in (3) until approx. 6cm long. Wet one side of each and cover with the sesame seeds.

5. Heat a frying pan and cook (4), the sesame sides down, over low heat for 5 minutes. Turn them over and cook the other sides.
