Whole Wheat Baguettes

Introduction

Healthy version of those wonderful crusty loaves of bread Healthy version of those wonderful crusty loaves of bread
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    warm water 1 cup
    whole wheat flour 3-3.5 cups
    salt 1 tsp.
    olive oil 1 tsp.
    sugar 1 tsp.
    yeast 1 tbs.

Directions

Put sugar and water in a bowl. Add the yeast. Allow to rest for 5 minutes. Add the oil, salt and flour. Knead for 10 minutes. Let rise till double. Punch down, knead and shape into two baguettes. Let rise till double again. Brush with egg white or water and bake for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven. Brush several times with water while baking. Makes 12 servings of 2 slices each.

  • Excellent recipe. I made this three nights ago. I love Baguette bread abd so much better with the whole wheat flour. since white flour had no nutrients - 4/15/10
