Bors de pui (Chicken Sour Soup)

Submitted by: 65TARGET

Introduction

Romanian Sour Soup - delicious, if you can find the secret ingredients: lovage and bors. It's yummy without them, too, if you replace bors with 2 Tbsp vinegar. Ingredients

    * Bors de tarate (Romanian wheat bran beverage used for flavoring sour soups), 1000 gram(s) (1 liter = 1000 ml)
    * Potato, raw, 1 medium (2-1/4" to 3-1/4" dia.) (cubed)
    * Summer Squash, 1 medium (cubed)
    * Onions, raw, 1 small (chopped)
    * Peppers, sweet, red, fresh, 1 medium (approx 2-3/4" long, 2-1/2" (chopped)
    * Carrots, raw, 2 medium (grated)
    * Parsley, 10 sprigs (chopped)
    * Lovage / Leustean (Herb for sour soups) - 1 serving = 10 sprigs, 1 serving (chopped)
    * Chicken Broth, 1000 mL (it makes itself if you just boil the chicken breast with salt)
    * Chicken Breast, no skin, 1 breast, bone and skin removed (maybe leave skin on for richer flavor, but remove it before adding veggies)
    * Salt, 1 tbsp (or to your taste)
    * Egg, fresh, 1 medium (add in the end)

Directions

Cube and boil the chicken breast in 1 liter of water.

Meanwhile, chop, grate, dice all ingredients, except for the egg.

When chicken is done, add the veggies and the bors (if you have no bors, just add water) and let them boil.

When the veggies are boiled, beat the egg and slowly add some of the boiling soup to it while still whisking. It will curd and look like flakes. Add it to the soup, leave it one more minute and ready!

Makes 6 servings. But you'll want more!
