General Tsao's Chicken

Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite sized pieces
    2 tsp. peanut or canola oil
    2 cloves garlic
    3/4 c. chicken broth
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. soy sauce
    1 Tbsp. seasoned rice vinegar
    1 1/2 Tbsp. corn starch
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
    4 servings cooked brown rice for serving (not included in nutrition info)

Directions

Combine garlic, chicken broth, corn starch, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, and red pepper flakes in a bowl and set aside.

Heat oil in a skillet, and add the chicken. Cook until the chicken is browned. Pour in the broth mixture and bring to a boil to thicken. Simmer until chicken is cooked all the way through. Serve over brown rice.

Makes 4 servings, 4 points each (plus the rice)

    This was great! I cooked my chicken in broth the night before then reheated it w/ the sauce the next day. I added broccoli & sugar snap peas and served it all over brown rice. I did double the sauce but I ended up w/more than 4 servings due to the additions. Can't wait for leftovers tonight! - 9/9/10

    Wow! My family Loved this! I put it in the crockpot (except cornstarch and rice). I added the cornstarch 10 minutes before eating it to thicken it up a bit. Because I put it in the CP, I was able to eliminate the oil. I substituted Splenda. I served it with brown rice and steamed broccoli. - 2/26/13

    My friend and I made this dish and it was fabulous it tasted just like chinese food you buy at the take out place. In stead of cubing it up we just left the chicken whole and served it on the side with stteamed veggies...mmmmm delish!! - 9/16/10

  • this was very yummy used cut up chicken thighs and next time id add more garlic couldnt really tease what was in it and id use real ginger and not just ginger powder thats all i had on hand but whole family enjoyed it! - 1/13/14

  • This was AMAZING! I doubled the red pepper because I like it spicy. I didn't add vegetables this time but next time I make it I plan to add sugar snap peas, carrots, and other vegetables. I also froze some to use as lunches for work. Haven't nuked it yet, but I'm sure it will hold up well. - 3/1/11
