Chocolate chip biscotti

Introduction

Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
    1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
    1/4 cup Cocoa, dry powder, unsweetened
    1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
    1/4 tsp. Salt
    1 large Egg
    1 Egg white
    1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
    1/2 tsp. Orange flavored Honey
    2 tbsp. Semisweet mini chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, mix together until blended the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a medium bowl, mix together the large egg, egg white, honey, and vanilla. Add this to the flour mixture.

Mix together until well combined. The dough will be sticky.

Lightly flour your hands and a surface. Roll the dough into 2-inch thick rope. Place the rope on a baking sheet. Press the dough rope to a 1-inch thick width.

Bake for 25-28 minutes or until firm to the touch. Remove from oven and let it cool on baking sheet for 2-5 minutes. Place rope on a cutting board. Cut rope into 1/2-inch thick slices (about 16 slices). Place slices on the baking sheet with the cut sides facing up.

Bake for 8 minutes. Turn the biscottis on the other cut side for another 8 minutes or until dry.

Let cool on wire rack.

Enjoy with a cup of ot coffee or cocoa!

    I've never made biscotti before, and this recipe was fairly simple. The recipe forgets to mention adding the chocolate chips....I rolled the dough too thin, I think it would be better described as making a long 'loaf' versus a 'rope'....then, it would resemble the picture. Good!!! - 5/1/08

    Tastes ok. CouldnĀ“t find orange flavoured honey in Sweden so I used non-flavoured. Took a wee bit too long to bake for my liking. - 4/29/08

    Sounds good, but if you eat because you are filling a void like I do it, wouldn't help me because I would eat every one of them. I hope someone comes up with something that can be made for single ONE svngs - 4/29/08

    I enjoyed them but honestly even with only 1/2t, the honey taste was too strong for me (I don't like honey though). DH loved them though and said they were one of the best I have made and I have made a lot of biscotti. It was good otherwise so I will definetely try them again without the honey. - 4/19/08

  • I made this recipe today, and it was very easy. However, it has an overpowering 'egg' taste to it . . . . not sure why.

  • The biscotti is very tasty, especially with the whole wheat flour! However, the recipe forgot to mention adding the chocolate chips to the batter before baking. Instead, I melted the chocolate chips and drizzled over the tops. - 7/7/11

    This was really easy and turned out great! I didn't have orange honey, but I just added a little bit of orange extract and it turned out really well! Also, if you don't re-bake them after slicing, you get a thick tasty cake-like dessert. Yummy! - 1/26/09

    I love this recipie and it has become a main stay of my diet. I need near 0 fat, so I used egg beaters and no chocolate chips. It is perfect to keep when you want something sweet & crunchy to go with that hot drink. Thank you! - 11/17/08
