Introduction

Impress your friends by making your pizza dough from scratch! This is a basic dough that can be divided to make four small- medium size pizzas. The dough can also be frozen and thawed later (so you don't have to spend four hours everytime you make pizza!) Impress your friends by making your pizza dough from scratch! This is a basic dough that can be divided to make four small- medium size pizzas. The dough can also be frozen and thawed later (so you don't have to spend four hours everytime you make pizza!)

Ingredients

4 cups white flour (or whole wheat flour)
    1 1/4 cups warm water
    1 tsp salt
1 package Active Dry Yeast (1/4 oz)
    1 tbsp Olive Oil
    1 tbsp cornmeal

Directions

Add Active Dry Yeast to warm water and let sit for 5-10 minutes until creamy/ foaming.
Stir together flour and salt.
Mix Yeast mixture with Flour mixture and knead until dough is no longer sticking to your hands.
Spread a small amount of oil in a large bowl and put ball of dough in the bowl (make sure to get a layer oil around the whole ball)
Cover the bowl and let sit for 1- 1 1/2 hours.
Knead the dough for about a minute and then let sit covered again for another 1- 2 hours. (You can cook as soon as ten minutes after, but it won't be as delicious :)
Once the dough is ready, punch it down a few times to let out air bubbles.
Sprinkle a little flour on a dry surface and divide dough into four equal pieces.
Use a rolling pin to flatten and shape the dough for pizza.
Heat oven to 400F
Place crust on baking pan or stone and add your favorite sauce/ toppings (I like to sprinkle cornmeal on the pan first to add a little texture)
Cook for 15-20 minutes (will vary depending on thickness, so keep an eye on it!)

Makes approximately 16 1-slice servings
