Great with fresh favas from the garden, but canned is good too.

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    Fava beans, fresh, 2 cup
    Tahini, .25 cup
    Ground Red Pepper, 2 tsp
    - eastern African markets have a Hot powder that is Fab
    Garlic, 2 cloves
    Salt, 2 dash
    Lemon juice, 3 tbsp

Directions

Drain beans and rinse if canned. Place in pot just cover with water, sprinkle with red pepper. Heat till hot. Set aside keep liquid.

In a medium bowl, using a pestle or the back of a spoon, crush the garlic to a paste with a pinch of salt. Whisk in the tahini and lemon juice. Whisk in 1/4 cup of cooking water.

Pour the tahini sauce into a wide serving bowl. Mound the warm fava beans in the center and pour another .25c bean cooking liquid on top.

Makes 6 servings, just shy of 1/2 cup

  • Okay So I have not tried this specific recipe, but I have been to Egypt and Jordan and I LOVE Ful Medames, and have been making it at home based on what I could remember. Got the rest of it, but how did I not think about Tahini, when I have it!! FacePalm! SO happy to find this one here to make soon! - 12/8/13
