Ingredients
-
1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1/2 large onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. dried or 1 tbsp. chopped fresh basil
1 tsp. dried or 1 tbsp. chopped fresh oregano
1 28 oz. can of crushed or petite diced tomatoes
1/4 cup + 1 tbsp tomato paste
3/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Directions
1. In a Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic, basil, and oregano; cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes.
2. Gently toss about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the warm sauce with each batch of the Italian meatballs, adding remaining sauce as desired. Makes 3 1/2 cups.
