2 3/4 C flour
1 C Sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 C boiling water
1 egg slightly beaten
1 pkg chopped dates ~1C
2 TBSP Crisco
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1C chopped walnuts
Boil water pour over dates, add soda, vanilla set to cool.
Mix flour, sugar, salt; slowly add to cooled date mixture a little at a time; add Nuts last.
Pour into pan and bake. Check center for doneness when knife comes out clean. Let cool. Cut loaf in half lengthwise, then slice each half into 12 slices.
