The Dutch make these as a treat for New Year. The calorie count does not include oil for deep frying, nor icing sugar for dipping. They are absolutely delicious! (I can't have just one). Ingredients

6 cups white flour
5 cups scalded milk
2 packages or 2 Tbsp. quick yeast
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
1/2 cup melted margarine
4 cups chopped apple
4 cups raisins, saoked and drained
Oil for deep frying
icing sugar for dipping
Tips
Directions
1. In large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
2. Mix in milk and margarine and beat into a nice batter, that can be scooped nicely with a spoon.
3. Stir in fruit.
4. Let rise in a warm place till doubled.
5. Stir down.
6. Heat oil until highest setting on deep fryer.
7. Using 2 serving spoons, dipped in the hot oil, scoop out 1 spoon of batter and with the help of the other spoon, drop the batter in the hot oil. Repeat till deep fryer is floating full - mine takes 5.
8. Fry until golden on the bottom, turn and fry till golden all over.
9. Drain on paper towel, serve warm with icing sugar for dipping. Also will be good cold...
