Thumbprint Cookies

Introduction

My mom's recipe. It is delicious, but not low fat. My mom's recipe. It is delicious, but not low fat.
Number of Servings: 36

Ingredients

    Cookies:
    Flour, whole grain, 1 cup
    *Flour, white, 1 cup
    Brown Sugar, .5 cup, packed
    *Shortening, Crisco, 1 cup
    Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp
    Salt, .5 tsp
    Egg Yolk, 2 large
    Egg white, fresh, 1 large
    Granulated Sugar, .25 cup

    Icing:
    Powdered Sugar, 1 cup, unsifted
    *Shortening, Crisco, 2.5 tbsp
    Milk, nonfat, .125 cup
    Vanilla Extract, .25 tsp

Directions

Cream brown sugar, crisco, egg yolks, vanilla, and salt. Add flour and mix until well blended. Roll into 36 1-inch balls, dip slightly in beaten egg white- roll in sugar. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 5 min. @ 375 - remove and quickly press thumb on top of each cookie. Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer.
Fill with tinted frosting.

Frosting:
Mix all ingredients until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
