Amazingly good - what a comforting dish. I also cut the oil in half to 2 tbsp and used 3.5 cups of water rather than 4.5, and it came out perfectly. And yes, no need to soak the lentils beforehand. - 1/30/08

This dish is really tasty and I also cut the oil down to 2 tbs. It is definetaly a dish that I will make again. It is a shame that leeks can be kind of hard to find. Thank you for sharing. - 3/21/08

This was very easy and really yummy. I cut the water down to 3 1/2 cups, as recommended above, and it was the perfect consistency. I also cut the oil to 2 TBSP. A keeper! - 1/27/08

Very easy and very good - also good cold as a salad w some vinaigrette. I used less oil (about 2 tablespoons) which was plenty. Next time I'd use less water. I was surprised, but this met the approval of my husband, too. - 7/16/07

This was delicious. I made the mistake of soaking my lentils before hand (Don't do it!) so I had a lot of excess broth, but I used a slotted spoon to serve, and the results were on target. - 3/27/07

This is so very tasty & nutritious. We added some crushed bacon (bacon bits), but they weren't needed.

I used less oil, added 2 additional carrots and threw in some fresh spinach at the end. I also spiced mine up a bit with cumin. I personally didn't care for the large slices of the leeks (I like onion taste in small doses.) My husband liked it and the kids tolerated it (8 & 3yo). - 11/6/08

Thanks for the tips on reducing the oil and water- all worked well - I just found it needed more salt. - 11/23/13

  • This recipe is excellent! I make it relatively often to have a vegetarian meal. My husband has meat on the side because he likes it, but he loves this recipe too. You can definitely play with some spices if you like. At the moment, mine has cayenne, curry powder, and sweet pepper. Yum! - 10/31/12

  • I think the water must depend on how tight your lid is, because 3.5 cups was not enough for me. However, very easy recipe (if time consuming) and enjoyed it! - 3/1/11

So for the lentils did you just use the regular brown lentils? Or did you use another kind? - 1/12/11
