Introduction

Ingredients

    1 pound lean ground beef
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 green bell pepper, chopped
    2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons chili powder
    1 large clove garlic, minced
    1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
    1 can (28 ounces) tomatoes, diced, with juices
    1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce 1
    /2 teaspoon ground cumin
    1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
    1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    1 can (15 ounces) chili beans, small red beans, or kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Directions

Cook first 3 ingredients in a large saucepan until meat is browned, stirring until it crumbles; drain off excess fat. Add chili powder and next 8 ingredients, stirring well; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Add beans, stirring well, and cook until thoroughly heated. Serves 6.
