Buttery Hot Pretzels

Introduction

Just as delicious as the mall pretzels, but lower in calories and you don't have to leave the house to enjoy them! Just as delicious as the mall pretzels, but lower in calories and you don't have to leave the house to enjoy them!
Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    4 t. active dry yeast
    1 t. sugar
    1.25 C. warm water
    5 C. flour
    .5 C. sugar
    1.5 t. salt
    1 T. oil
    .5 C. baking soda
    4 C. warm water
    1 egg, lightly beaten (not included in the calorie calculation )because the amount used is negligable.
    20 grams butter, melted

Directions

Makes 16 pretzels, although I usually halve the recipe. I am submitting it as-is, for ease of adding ingredients from the SP database. :)

Combine warm water and 1 t. sugar in a small bowl. Add yeast and let sit for 10 minutes or until creamy. In a separate bowl (preferably using a stand mixer), combine the flour, .5 C. sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture and oil to flour and mix to combine. Add 1-2 T. water if dough appears too dry. Knead with dough hook or by hand for 8-10 minutes.

Oil a clean bowl and place dough ball in the bowl and cover. Let rise for about an hour and a half or until doubled in size.

After dough has sufficiently risen, separate into 16 pieces (or 8, if halving) and role into ropes. Twist into pretzel shape.

Combine baking soda and hot water. Dip each pretzel into the baking soda mixture and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Brush each pretzel with beaten egg. Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.

After removing from the oven, brush each pretzel with melted butter. Enjoy!!!

Any extras can be frozen and reheated easily.
