Introduction

Great comfort food or when you'r curled up in front of a fire on cold winter night. Great comfort food or when you'r curled up in front of a fire on cold winter night.

Ingredients

    Split Peas, 1134 grams ( 2- 20ounce bags dried peas)
    Ham, regular (11% fat), 6 cup, diced
    12 cups water
    Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped
    Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

cook hambone covered in water with ham for about 2 hours till ham falls off bone. Drain and save broth remove ham from bones chop ham, should have about 6 cups chopped ham. Add onion, ham, and dried peas to broth, then add enough water to cover all. Simmer about 2 or 2 1/2 hours until peas are liquid. Watch off and on while it simmers add water if needed. makes 10 (2 cup) servings
