Un-baked Ziti

Introduction

Ingredients

    Sauce:
    10 oz (half pkg) Jeanie-O Italian Ground Turkey
    1 onion, chopped
    1 bell pepper, chopped
    3 minced garlic cloves
    1 15 oz can diced tomatoes
    1 8oz can tomato sauce
    1 tbsp basil leaves (dried)
    1 tsp oregano
    1 tsp salt
    1 tbsp no-calorie sweetener
    1 cup water
    2 cups of dry ziti, penne or broken lagsana noodles (whole wheat)

    Cheese topping:
    3/4C cottage cheese, 2%
    3 T shredded parmesan cheese
    1 egg
    1 t basil
    1t italian seasoning
    1/2 C shredded part-skim mozzarella

Directions

Makes 7 cups

1. Begin to brown turkey on a large saucepan. When thurkey is half done stir in onions, peppers and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in tomatoes, water and seasonings and simmer 5 min.

2. Stir in pasta, reduce heat to a low simmer and cook 20 minutes or until pasta is tender.

3. While pasta is cooking, mix cottage cheese, parm, egg & seasonings. When pasta is tender drop cheese mixture by 1T measuring spoon on top of the simmering sauce. Sprinkle the whole thing with the mozz, cover and simmer 5 minutes more.

Serve hot with a green veggie & salad!!
