Ingredients
-
1 cup water
1 tsp sugar
2 3/4 cups flour (you can mix wheat and white)
1 TB active dry yeast
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp basil
pinch of black pepper
1 TB oil, plus 1 more TB for brushing
cornmeal, optional
Directions
Mix 1 tsp of sugar in 1 cup of warm water and let it sit while you mix the rest of the dry ingredients, about 10 minutes.
Sift together flour, yeast, herbs, salt and pepper.
Mix water and oil into the flour mixture until it forms a ball. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-6 minutes and then place in an oiled bowl under a damp cloth to sit for 40 minutes.
After 40 minutes, punch the dough down and spread it out half an inch on a lightly oiled baking stone or sheet. (add cornmeal on the bottom if desired.)
