Applesauce Spice Cake (box base)

Introduction

Taking the boxed spice cake to another level.
Bake in two 8" square pans. Serve one, and freeze one for another day.

Ingredients

    Box of Spice Cake (dry mix)
    1 1/14 cup unsweetened applesauce
    1/3 cup canola oil
    3 eggs
    1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
    3/4 cup raisins

    Buttercream Cinnamon Icing:
    4 cups icing sugar (confectioners sugar)
    1/3 cup becel or butter
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 oz milk (may need more or less....start with tablespoon at a time)
    1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Directions

Mix applesauce, eggs, and oil in bowl. Add dry cake mix and stir til well blended. Add nuts and raisins.
Put into two greased and floured 8 inch square pans.
Bake at 350 for about 35 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes and remove from pans.

When totally cool, beat icing sugar, becel, cinnamon, vanilla and 1 TBS of the milk. Add more milk as needed if too thick to spread easily. Frost both cakes, and top with the chopped nuts.
