Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

Cabbage, red, fresh, 2 cup, chopped into very small pieces.
Onions, raw, 1 medium (2-1/2" dia) chopped.
Aromatic Basmati Rice, brown, uncooked, 0.75 cup - you can also use white rice.
split chick peas 100 gms, 7 oz
Sambhar Powder MTR, 1 tbsp This is generally used or you can use roasted chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder or your own favorite spices.
Kosher salt, 0.5 tsp to taste. ( I am on a low sodium diet)

Directions

Soak rice and split chick peas separately in warm water for 4 hours. Rinse, drain and blend the rice in very little water to a thick paste. Rinse, drain and coarsely chop split chick peas in a food processor.
In the mean time, sprinkle salt over cabbage and let sit.
Stir in the spices to onion and mix well.
Mix all the items together, make small 11/2" diameter balls to deep fry in hot oil. Fry till they turn deep brown to almost black. Remove and serve with Chai.

If you added a bit too much water to the rice or have trouble making tight balls to drop in oil, so they stay in tact, add a little besan or rice flour.

Enjoy!

Serves 6 at 5 balls each.
