Ingredients

    2 lbs beef stew meat, cubed
    1/4 c. whole wheat flour (all-purpose works too)
    3 T olive oil
    1 lg onion, chopped
    4 carrots, sliced (I used 1 c. baby carrots)
    3 stalks celery, sliced
    2 tsp minced garlic (or 2 cloves garlic)
    2 bay leaves
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp sugar
    1 tsp lemon juice
    1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    1/2 tsp paprika
    1/8 tsp ground clove
    4 c. water
    2 tsp beef bullion

Directions

Makes 8 2 c. servings

1. Dredge meat in flour.
2. Heat a large skillet with 3 T oil.
3. Add beef cubes to skillet & saute until browned on all sides.
4. Transfer beef to a slow cooker.
5. Boil water in a kettle, and when ready, measure 2 c. in a glass measuring cup, along with 2 c. beef bullion.
6. Pour bullion water into the skillet, and turn heat up to High.
7. Using a wooden spoon, scrape the skillet to get all the bits.
8. Meanwhile, add onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaves, salt, sugar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, paprika, & cloves to slow cooker.
9. Pour the water from the skillet into the slow cooker, and add the remaining 2 c. water.
10. Cook on Low for 10-12 hours, or High for 5-6 hours.
11. Remove and discard bay leaves before serving.
