Buttery Baking Powder Biscuits

Introduction

Number of Servings: 18

Ingredients

    3 cups white flour
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 heaping tablespoon baking powder
    teaspoon cream of tartar
    cup cold butter, cut into slices
    cup solid shortening, such as Crisco
    1 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 425.
-Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix well
-Add butter and shortening. Using two knives or a pastry blender, cut into dry mix, until it makes crumbs the size of small peas.
-Pour milk into the dough and stir until all ingredients are moist. DO NOT overmix.
-Knead on a lightly floured surface 8 to 10 turns. Form into rounds 2 1/2 wide and x 1/2" high. Place 1" apart on pan lightly coated with cooking spray. Bake 10 to 12 minutes watching that bottoms don't brown too quickly (if they do, reduce heat to 400)
-Serve warm
