Imported Romano cheese is made from sheep's milk, and is very low in lactose, which is true of other hard cheeses. I always use Locatelli...it's high quality, and can be easily obtained in supermarkets...Cauliflower also works well in this style... Ingredients

    1 bunch fresh asparagus, about 16 stalks
    2 tbsp imported Romano cheese
    2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    Ground black pepper to taste

Directions

Trim stems from asparagus and rinse stalks in cold water

Cover asparagus with cold water and blanch in pan with a broiler proof handle until water boils; empty blanching water and add olive oil, cheese and pepper

Run under broiler until cheese is very lightly browned
