Cracked Wheat Cereal in Apple Juice (Slow Cooker)

Introduction

I got this recipe from a friend and make it all the time, it's so easy and delicious! We use no sugar added apple juice from our local farmers market. I got this recipe from a friend and make it all the time, it's so easy and delicious! We use no sugar added apple juice from our local farmers market.

Ingredients

    1 c. Fine Cracked Wheat
    4 c. Apple Juice
    3 Tbsp. Honey
    2 Tbsp. Butter, Unsalted
    Pinch of Salt
    1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. Ground Cardamom
    1/2 c. Chopped Dried Apples

Directions

Put the cracked wheat in a dry skillet and toast over medium heat until you can just smell the aroma, about 5 monutes.

Combine the wheat, apple juice, honey, butter, salt, cinnamon, cardamom and dried apples in a small slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 7-9 hours or overnight, until tender. Stir a few times with a whisk while cooking.

Stir the cereal well and scoop into bowls with an oversized spoon. Serve with milk, cream or soymilk to taste.

Serving Size: Makes about 8 1-cup servings.
