Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Submitted by: YENDUCHAKA

Introduction

This is a variation of a few different recipes I've seen for bread. I love the fact that it's made entirely of whole grains, and that it uses a natural sweetener. Ingredients

    1 T yeast
    1/4 cup lukewarm water
    2 c. milk
    3 T shortening
    1/4 c. honey
    1/2 T salt
    4+ cups whole wheat flour

Directions

Scald milk. Soften yeast in water for about 5 minutes. Put shortening, honey and salt into large mixing bowl. Pour scalded milk over and stir until all ingredients are dissolved. Allow temperature to become lukewarm. Mix in 1 c. flour. Mix in yeast mixture. Add 1 c. of flour at a time until you have a good consistency for dough. Place on floured surface and knead. Separate into two loaves. Place each loaf in a greased bread pan and cover. Allow to rise once, and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

Serving Size: make two loaves (slice into about 12 slices each)
