Introduction

Taken from the book "Miserly Meals" by Jonni McCoy Taken from the book "Miserly Meals" by Jonni McCoy
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    1 cup rolled oats
    1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 cup honey

(for mine I added 1 cup raisins)

Directions

Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl, and mix. Add the vanilla and honey, and mix well. Press the mix evenly into a greased 8x8 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Before cutting, cool completely.

Option: Add 1 cup of any of the following when you add the honey: chopped nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips, or coconut.

Cost per serving (1 bar): $.13

Kitchen tip: To make granola bars or brownies special, add a chocolate topping: Put 1-2 of your favorite candy bars in a bowl, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk, and melt in the microwave. Mix and spread over the bars or brownies.

Serving Size: Makes 6 bars

Number of Servings: 6
